## K5 Viewer
## UV Studio
K5Viewer is a browser-based tool that displays the live screen output of the Quansheng K1 and K5 transceiver while also allowing non-TX key control from your computer.
[UV Studio](./UV-Studio) is the unified browser-based companion for this firmware:
It can be used with:
[https://armel.github.io/uvstudio/](https://armel.github.io/uvstudio/)
* the radio `USB-C` connection
* a Baofeng/Kenwood-style `double-jack` USB-to-Serial cable
It combines the capabilities previously split between K5Viewer and UVTools2:
K5Viewer can now send supported key presses back to the radio:
* live `128x64` screen mirroring
* virtual UV-K1 and UV-K5 keypads with supported short and long presses
* compatible RF-log streaming, analytics, and CSV export
* firmware flashing
* calibration backup and restore
* custom boot-logo upload and download
* from the `PC keyboard`
* from the built-in `virtual keyboard`
* with both short and long presses for supported keys
Current builds also keep K5Viewer in sync when the `SetSav` screen saver is displayed. Screenshot transfer was optimized to reduce peak RAM usage and avoid stale screen chunks, so live screen mirroring should be more reliable during animated or frequently changing screens.
Build configurations that enable the optional RX/TX-log K5Viewer bridge can also stream recent RF-log rows to compatible viewer tooling.
It uses `Web Serial` and runs locally in a compatible desktop browser without an installation, server, or account.
> [!IMPORTANT]
> K5Viewer is not a full remote-control or TX tool.
> You cannot start transmission from K5Viewer, and pressing `PTT` in the interface has no effect.
> Viewer key control does not provide remote TX. UV Studio cannot start a transmission, and its on-screen `PTT` does not transmit.
Here is a quick tutorial:
See [UV Studio](./UV-Studio) for requirements, radio modes, safety information, and the complete workflows.
1. Flash your Quansheng K1 or K5 with this firmware.
1. Connect the transceiver to your computer with either a `USB-C` cable or a compatible Baofeng/Kenwood-style `double-jack` USB-to-Serial cable.
1. Open [https://armel.github.io/k5viewer/](https://armel.github.io/k5viewer/) in a browser with `Web Serial` support such as Chrome or Edge.
1. Click `Connect` and select the serial port.
1. Use the `PC keyboard` or the on-screen `Keypad` if you want remote key control.
## Standalone K5Viewer and UVTools2
That is it. Nothing to install. Nothing to configure. Just plug in and view.
UV Studio is intended to become the main browser-based companion for the firmware. The standalone tools remain available during the transition and can still be used for existing workflows.
### K5 Viewer
[K5Viewer](https://armel.github.io/k5viewer/) mirrors the live radio display and sends supported non-TX key presses from the computer keyboard or virtual keypad. It works through either the radio `USB-C` connection or a compatible Baofeng/Kenwood-style `double-jack` USB-to-Serial cable.
Current firmware builds keep K5Viewer synchronized with `SetSav` screen-saver frames. Builds that enable the optional RX/TX-log bridge can also stream recent RF-log rows to compatible viewer tooling.

## UVTools2
### UVTools2
UVTools2 is the browser-based tool used to flash firmware, back up or restore calibration data, and manage the custom boot logo.
[UVTools2](https://armel.github.io/uvtools2/) provides the original standalone firmware flashing, calibration backup/restore, and custom boot-logo tools.
Use it from a compatible browser:
[https://armel.github.io/uvtools2/](https://armel.github.io/uvtools2/)
Recent builds with logo support can display a custom boot logo at startup. Upload the image with UVTools2, then select `LOGO` in menu `POnMsg`.
See [UVTools2 web tool](./UVTools2-web-tool) for the full workflow.

# UV Studio
UV Studio is the unified browser-based companion for the UV-K1 / UV-K5 V3 Fusion firmware. It brings together the live display and remote-control features of K5Viewer with the firmware and maintenance tools of UVTools2 in one interface.
Open it here:
[https://armel.github.io/uvstudio/](https://armel.github.io/uvstudio/)
UV Studio communicates directly with the radio through the `Web Serial` API. It runs locally in the browser and does not require an installation, server, or account.
> [!NOTE]
> UV Studio is intended to become the main browser-based companion for this firmware. The standalone [K5Viewer](https://armel.github.io/k5viewer/) and [UVTools2](https://armel.github.io/uvtools2/) applications remain available during the transition.
> [!IMPORTANT]
> Use UV Studio with the UV-K1 / UV-K5 V3 Fusion firmware only. Firmware flashing and maintenance operations access low-level flash or EEPROM areas, so always use files made for the correct radio and firmware generation.
## Requirements
You need:
* a compatible Quansheng UV-K1 or UV-K5 V3
* a data-capable `USB-C` connection or compatible Baofeng/Kenwood-style `double-jack` USB-to-Serial cable
* a desktop browser with `Web Serial` support, such as Chrome, Brave, Edge, Opera, or Firefox 151+
## What UV Studio can do
UV Studio provides:
* a real-time `128x64` radio display
* virtual UV-K1 and UV-K5 keypads
* short and long key presses from the virtual keypad or computer keyboard
* radio-screen screenshots
* live RF activity and session analytics when supported by the firmware
* RF-log history export to CSV
* firmware flashing from the official Fusion catalog, a URL, or a local `.bin` file
* calibration backup and restore
* custom boot-logo upload and download
* light and dark themes
* an interface translated into multiple languages
UV Studio coordinates access to the serial port, so a Viewer connection and a maintenance operation do not try to use the radio at the same time.
## Radio mode
The required radio mode depends on the operation:
* `Live Viewer`, live `RF Log`, calibration backup/restore, RF-log export, and logo upload/download: start the radio normally
* firmware flashing: start the radio in `DFU` / flash mode
If UV Studio cannot communicate with the radio, disconnect the cable, restart the radio in the required mode, reconnect the cable, and select the serial port again.
## Live Viewer
The Live Viewer mirrors the radio display in real time and provides matching UV-K1 and UV-K5 virtual keypads.
To use it:
1. Start the radio normally.
1. Connect the radio to the computer with a supported data cable.
1. Open UV Studio and select `Live Viewer`.
1. Select the UV-K1 or UV-K5 keypad.
1. Click `Connect` and choose the radio serial port.
1. Use the computer keyboard or virtual keypad for supported short and long key presses.
1. Click `Disconnect` before unplugging the cable.
The Viewer can also download a screenshot of the current radio display and adjust the on-screen LCD rendering.
> [!IMPORTANT]
> The Viewer is not a TX remote-control tool. It cannot start a transmission, and the on-screen `PTT` does not transmit.
## RF Log
When RX/TX logging and the compatible Viewer bridge are enabled in the firmware, UV Studio can show RF activity while the radio is connected.
The RF Log view includes:
* recent RX and TX activity
* frequency or channel information
* session duration
* signal or transmit-power information
* battery-voltage information
* session analytics and activity summaries
The separate `Export RF Log` tool reads up to the latest `512` stored activities and power-on markers from the radio, then generates a CSV file.
Keep the radio in normal mode for both live viewing and history export. If no entries appear, check that the installed firmware supports RF Log and that logging is enabled.
## Flash firmware
> [!WARNING]
> Flashing an incompatible or corrupted image can leave the radio unusable. Verify the radio model and bootloader compatibility, make a calibration backup first, and do not disconnect the cable during the write.
To flash firmware:
1. Start the radio in `DFU` / flash mode.
1. Open UV Studio and select `Flash Firmware`.
1. Select an official Fusion build from the catalog, or choose a compatible local `.bin` file.
1. Click `Flash firmware`.
1. Wait until programming is complete before disconnecting the cable.
## Dump and restore calibration
Calibration data is specific to each radio. Make a backup before experimenting with firmware images or low-level settings, and store it somewhere safe.
To dump calibration:
1. Start the radio normally.
1. Select `Dump Calibration`.
1. Click `Dump Calibration Data`.
1. Download the generated `calibration.dat` file.
To restore calibration:
1. Start the radio normally.
1. Select `Restore Calibration`.
1. Choose the correct `calibration.dat` file.
1. Click `Restore Calibration Data`.
1. Wait until the restore is complete before disconnecting the cable.
> [!WARNING]
> Restore only calibration data that belongs to the same radio, unless you know exactly what you are doing.
## Custom boot logo
Compatible builds can display a custom `128x64` monochrome image at startup or as a screen saver.
To upload a logo:
1. Start the radio normally.
1. Select `Upload Logo`.
1. Choose an image file.
1. Adjust `Threshold` and `Invert colors` until the preview looks right.
1. Click `Upload Logo to Radio`.
1. On the radio, select `LOGO` in menu `POnMsg` for the startup logo, or choose a compatible `SetSav` logo mode for the screen saver.
To keep a copy of the current logo, select `Download Logo`, read it from the radio, and download the generated `logo.png`.
## Standalone tools during the transition
UV Studio combines the features previously split between:
* [K5Viewer](https://armel.github.io/k5viewer/) for live display, keypad control, and compatible RF-log streaming
* [UVTools2](https://armel.github.io/uvtools2/) for firmware flashing, calibration, and boot-logo management
These standalone tools remain available for existing workflows. See [Advanced features](./Advanced-features#standalone-k5viewer-and-uvtools2) and [UVTools2 web tool](./UVTools2-web-tool) for their existing documentation.
